Wells
Investigative journalism performed by Ida B. Wells determined that falsehoods placed upon Black people often resulted in lynchings (this is also noted in Ralph Ginzburg’s book) and ultimately more Black women were the victims of rape by White men. What caused the lynching of Black people was envy, jealously of educational and/or economic success. Black self assurance and competition was the overarching cause for lynchings in the American south (and countless lynching victims were returning military veterans). This information is also reaffirmed in Ginzburg’s text. A significant amount of lynching victims were Black business owners, educators and/or high to middle class wage earners.
